Colleen’s interests in science and technology almost led her into a career as an astronomer, but after 2 years of calculus and physics she re-focused on her love of writing, graduating with a degree in Rhetoric from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Colleen continued her studies at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. As a student in the Popular Literature postgraduate program, Colleen specialized in the contemporary prevalence of media convergence (storytelling across multiple media platforms including television, novels, and the internet). Her thesis - NBC's Heroes: Comics, Morality, and the Evolution of Storytelling - explored the multi-platform storytelling of the first season of the hit television series. Colleen earned her Master's of Philosophy in Popular Literature with Upper Second Class Honours.
After graduation, Colleen continued to explore her interests in communication, education, and technology. She spent four years as a trainer, instructional designer, and writer for Chicago-based software company INXPO and then worked as an instructional designer at the Adler School of Professional Psychology. She has also held positions as an ACT/SAT tutor, QA analyst, educational support worker, technical writer, and K-12 teacher.
Currently, Colleen is an instructional designer at Stanford Graduate School of Business.
